This is a crazy country! Here, anyone can make it big. Anyone, that is, not afraid to do what it takes. You strike me as the type who's not afraid to crack a few eggs, as they say.

The Grand Theft Auto franchise makes it big in America with the Grand Theft Auto IV. In it you play as a new Eastern European immigrant, Niko, making his way in a new country. You do this mostly with acts of crime.

Not that you're limited to crime, or to anything really. GTA 4 also continues with the tradition of open gameplay. You still get a large city in which you are free to roam and explore from the third person perspective behind Niko. Whether you want to run, shoot, drive, fly, or just take in a stand-up show (seriously), there's probably something in this game for you.

Remember, America is only the land of opportunity for those willing to work for it. You are willing to work, yes? Even if those things required of you are a little... unpleasant? Good good. You'll do just fine here...

[ A- ] 1UP says "This closing comment from a character who's just given Niko Bellic a mission is how Rockstar justifies one of Grand Theft Auto 4's earliest moments of clumsy storytelling. From here, Niko (i.e., you) must do something that makes no sense in the context of the story and character development thus far. Rockstar provides a gorgeous open city, a fantastic driving model, and some spirited gunplay. Now they're going to shove you forward with their graceless scripted moments. You will shoot a guy in the knee, then in the head, then watch him tumble off a building, all after an affecting heart-to-heart with the guy's wife, who will later show up for a downbeat coda to presumably make you feel bad about what Rockstar forced you to do."

[ 9.0 ] Gamespot says "Performance issues prevent this lazy PC port of a superb console game from being the best Grand Theft Auto yet."

[ try it ] Crispy Gamer says "Writing for Crispy has a raft of benefits, but when it comes time to address Grand Theft Auto, there's nothing better than sheltering under the umbrella of our rating system, away from the argument about whether Grand Theft Auto IV deserves a perfect rating. I went into this review excited to engage some of the topics that came up when the game first hit consoles, but without the burden of having to decide between a 9/10 and 10/10."

[ 8.4 ] Gamer 2.0 Reviews says " Once upon a time, the Grand Theft Auto series was catered for PC audiences. But with the advent of the Playstation 2 and a transition to 3D, Rockstar switched its priority to console gaming. Thankfully the Scottish-based developers have, at least hazily, remembered their roots and while nine months has passed since Grand Theft Auto IV’s console appearance, the PC port is finally here."
