Reviews

[ 8.0 ] Gamespot says "When Patapon came out in early 2008, its deep gameplay, stylish visuals, and unique mix of strategy and rhythm action helped it capture the attention of players across the globe. Now, a little more than a year later, Patapon 2 has arrived with new units, new abilities, a branching leveling system, and a brand-new multiplayer mode. The core mechanics of rhythm action and real-time strategy remain largely the same, but these new additions, as well as a host of unlockables, mean that Patapon 2 is well worth playing both for fans and new players to the series. "

[ A- ] Gaming Age says "I have no trouble looking at the game with a critical eye, and there are still some issues that carry over from the first game that bother me just as much here, but on the flip side of things Patapon 2 does manage to make improvements, most noticeably in giving me an idea of what I want to do next, and how to go about doing it, and really, it's just a fun title for the system that everyone should really try out."

[ 8.4 ] IGN PSP says "Thankfully for fans, Patapon 2 improves on the formula of the original game, even if the sequel doesn't stretch the genre in any new directions. The basic premise is simple: using the four face buttons on the PSP - Triangle, Square, Circle and Cross - you tap out specific four-note rhythms in time to the pulsing background beat in order to command your tiny followers. As their Almighty, your commands are the only thing they will listen to, so if you don't command them, they won't move. There is no autonomy – if there was, there'd be no gameplay. "

[ 9.5 ] IGN PSP says "Without a doubt, Patapon 2 is better than its predecessor in every way. It's longer, there are more songs, there are more characters, there are more monsters, there are more items, there are more mini-games and there are more things I could list here. Does it feel like well-worn territory at times? Yes, especially in the beginning and the end, but anyone foolish enough to say that this is Patapon 1.5 should replay the original and see how far off the mark that perception really is."
